Lighted Street Light

Been itchin' to make one of these since I saw that guy with all the ML & the huge building display; finally had some time to make something for myself ....

I originally wanted to build the battery pack into the base - but didn't have a clip small enough. I'll probably build some sort of container that will add to the scene (like a postal drop box or something) later.

First saw the idea from this guy http://home.comcast.net/~MarvelLegends/; pick the "My Desk" on the left, scroll to the bottom and click on the "How the Mansion was Built" link.

Here's an excerpt:
"The street lamps are finally lit. The street lamps came as a blessing from the Spider-Man 2 movie figs. I looked very hard for street lamps in the proper scale, and never found what I wanted for less than $80 each. These lamps from Toy Biz are perfect. I cut the fake bulbs off with a fine toothed saw, then boil and popped the top section of the lamp to seperate it. I purchased two 3/4" clear acrylic balls, and drilled them out so that I could fit a 5mm LED bulb inside. I sanded the outside with 400 grit sandpaper to frost them. I then threaded the wiring inside the lamp and glued the lamp tops back together and clamped them over night. I wired in the necessary resistors for the bulbs, and threaded them into the middle section of the lamps. Both lamps are wired back to a 12 volt AC converter hidden behind the mansion's front doors."

The only things I did different was to use a XMas ornament (clear tear-drop) instead of the doll-house crystal ball and a battery clip using two AA batteries (in parallel). I also cut out the scroll-work on the lamp post (as seen in the first pic).

I dont feel right claiming any sort of acclaim for another's idea. Now if I had incorporated it into a dio... that'd be another matter.
